This trail encircles a prominent feature east of Vilcabamba, the 1890 m high Loma Nanaro, which is also a nice viewpoint overlooking Vilcabamba. Ascent is via quebrada (valley) Suapo, crosses over a small pass and descends into the Uruchi valley, returning via Yamburara bajo to town.

Route: You find the trailhead 2 kilometers east from the Tourist office on the Rio Yambala road at the entrance of the little Quebrada (Valley) Suapo. (See photoA-9-1). It branches off the main road to the left, where you see a prominent cream colored building on the mountainside above. After 200 meters into the valley you pass the sign “Bienvenidos a la Reserva natural del valle de Vilcabmba”, which refers to the formerly protected Eucalyptus reforestation of the Suapo valley. One km into the valley, you reach the end of the vehicle road at a cattle fence. 100 m further on, you find a concrete water tank and a cattle feeding place. From here, the winding trail climbs more steeply through shrubs and after 300 meters reaches another cattle fence, which gives way to open grazing lands. Climbing the hillside, on the left side above, there is a farm, you shouldn’t trespass. Instead head strait uphill, until you’ll find a fenced in cattle watering place.  From there, descend to your left (west) towards a distinct ridge. Further along the narrow ridge, just before a rocky part, the trail drops sharply off the ridge to the right. The first farm gate you have to pass through, at the second gate leave the ridge to the right and descend towards the valley floor. After a 150 m descent, you reach the bottom of Uruchi valley, where you turn left. 1 km along the shaded Uruchi valley gets you back to the main road at Yamburara bajo, next to “Craig’s book exchange”, and back to town.
